This collection contains materials related to the operations of the Manhattan Railway Company in Mahnattan between 1878 and 1893. Materials include a notebook titled "General Manager, Mileage of Manhattan Railway Co. Met New York & [illegible], January 21, 1882, also additional memoranda as to dates of events &c &c," 1878-1883; a notebook titled "January 1885 Heights of structure on all lines...and approximate value & cash of above, 1885," 1878, 1885; a ledger titled "Diary - No. 2.," 1882-1884, 1915; a notebook titled "Diary Chief Engineer's Office from Oct. 1 1887 to Jan. 30 1893"; and a notedbook titled "Stations," circa 1880s. Some notebooks include tipped-in notes, papers, and correspondence.
